Commerce WorkFirst is Washington state’s welfare reform program designed to help Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) participants become self-sufficient through employment services, training, childcare, and other support activities.
How Commerce WorkFirst helps
Commerce WorkFirst participants receive opportunities to gain job skills and experience through a variety of work readiness programs.
- Community Jobs is a comprehensive, paid work program that increase employability of participants. Barrier removal and other intensive case management services are also provided.
- Career Jump provides the same services as Community Jobs. However, businesses make a commitment to hire the participant sometime during or at the end of the training period.
- Community Works provides participants an unpaid structured work activity that builds work ethics, soft skills, and work skills.
If you are receiving TANF and think one of these programs will help you succeed, please contact a service provider in your region using the WorkFirst External Contact List (PDF) or by visiting your local DSHS office.
