At least once a year, Commerce and the UTC hold a meeting with representatives of investor- and consumer-owned utilities, regional planning organizations, transmission operators, and other stakeholders to discuss the current, short-term, and long-term adequacy of energy resources to serve the state’s electric needs. Based on RCW 19.280.065, Commerce and the Utilities and Transportation Commission (Commission) are required to hold these annual meetings and provide a summary to the governor and legislature.
Meeting topics discussed include recent assessments of electricity demand and supply, the electric power industry’s progress in developing a coordinated resource adequacy program, and other actions utilities are taking to ensure resource adequacy. Meeting summaries are submitted to the governor and Legislature within 60 days of each meeting, and meetings will be held through 2031.

The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) and Commerce is hosting its annual resource adequacy meeting required by RCW 19.280.065. This meeting will be the second of three resource adequacy meetings hosted by Commerce and UTC in calendar year 2025 and will cover topics discussed at traditional resource adequacy meetings mandated by RCW 19.280.065. The final resource adequacy meeting of the year will focus on winter and gas system readiness and is scheduled for the morning of Nov. 4, with the notice and agenda to be posted closer to the meeting date.
