Applications open for affordable multifamily rental projects – preservation funding available (NOFA#MHU-2026-04)
Commerce is releasing funding opportunities for affordable multifamily housing operators and developers to preserve affordability in properties currently serving Washington communities. MHU has elected to offer up to $24,100,000 of the appropriated funds to projects already in the Housing Trust Fund portfolio (executed contract) and in need of funding to extend its useful life via this NOFA.

Commerce is releasing funding opportunities for affordable multifamily housing operators and developers to preserve affordability in properties currently serving Washington communities. MHU has elected to offer up to $10,000,000 of the appropriated funds to projects that are at risk of losing affordability due to expiration of use restrictions via this NOFA. This includes projects that are exiting the HTF portfolio.

Library Capital Improvement Program (LICP) grants will be awarded to acquire, construct, or rehabilitate library facilities operated by governmental units as defined in RCW 27.12.010 to fund up to 50% of eligible capital costs. The program committee will recommend total awards of up to $10 million. Any one project may request up to $2 million.

Commerce’s Community Reinvestment Program (CRP) is requesting proposals to expand post-conviction legal services that help people overcome barriers to jobs, housing and education.

Request for Information (RFI): Technical assistance program for strategic hydrogen end-uses
The Department of Commerce Office of Renewable Fuels is creating a new technical assistance program to support key users of clean hydrogen and hydrogen-derived fuels. Commerce is requesting input from the hydrogen industry, prospective hydrogen users in related industries, and the technical assistance vendor community to shape the development of the program, which is expected to have funding available through June 30, 2027.

The Department of Commerce will reopen the climate planning grant application period to distribute the remaining $7.5 million of grant funding to support communities conducting comprehensive planning for climate change.
