Washington EV Instant Rebate Program

The Washington State Department of Commerce’s EV Instant Rebates Program is now closed. All 2024 funds have been claimed.

Income verification

To ensure program funds reach low-income Washingtonians, a portion of all Instant Rebate recipients were chosen for income verification. You can verify your income using this EV Rebate Verification link.

Program results

By offering easy-to-access EV Instant Rebates, Commerce helped thousands of low-income households go electric and save money with every mile they drive. Three program components ensured that rebates went to people who otherwise couldn’t afford an EV:

1. Low-income focus: Households with annual income below 300% of federal poverty level were eligible. The average rebate recipient reported a household income of $53,800 (55% of median income).
2. Impactful rebate amounts: The average rebate was $7,360, making EVs affordable when stacked with federal clean vehicle credits.
3. Easy to access: Point-of-sale discounts were applied “on-the-hood” by more than 300 participating dealers.

Thanks to Washington’s relatively affordable electricity, electric vehicle (EVs) users save an average of $0.16 per mile, adding up to $1,571 in annual savings for the average driver.
