Commerce’s Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) aims to help individuals and families meet their basic needs, achieve self-sufficiency, and improve their community in the ways that make the most sense for them.
How does the program work
CSBG is administered by the Washington State Department of Commerce. We partner with federally designated Community Action Agencies throughout Washington to distribute resources that:
- Help individuals and families meet their basic needs
- Assist individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency
- Improve communities in the ways that make the most sense for those living in them
Commerce receives federal CSBG funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and state CSBG funding designated by the state legislature. Appropriated funds are passed directly into communities.
What are Community Action Agencies
Local Community Action Agencies may provide support to individuals and families with:
- Housing
- Energy assistance
- Nutrition
- Employment
- Training
- Emergency services
- Financial management
