Commerce's Mark Calhoon Meets the King of Span

Representatives from the Washington trade show delegation meet Spain’s King Felipe VI.

The highlight of Day One for the Choose Washington trade show delegation at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain was the chance to greet King Felipe VI. The invitation reflects the strong relationship between Spain and Washington State.  We were the first delegation to meet with the king at the show.

James Costos, the U.S. Ambassador to Spain, visited our exhibit in the huge Hanse-Aerospace Pavilion.  We discussed the success that Washington state companies have had attending this major mobile tech industry event and the record export sales that we achieved last year.  He spoke with several companies including Trusted Key, Apptentive, and Syntonic.

Commerce hosted a United Kingdom – Washington state roundtable, with approximately eight UK companies and eight Washington State companies feature.  The area overflowed so it was likely more companies joined in – great results!  Each company did an elevator pitch and then networked for 30-40 minutes.

We also met with representatives from Alberta Trade and Investment, as well as the ICT Association of Manitoba (www.ICTAM.ca) to discuss how our two regions can further collaborate on economic development, fostering ICT startup growth and other topics.
