Chelan, Whitman counties awarded state grants for economic development planning
Community Economic Revitalization Board approves nearly $90K to study job creation strategies
OLYMPIA, WA –The Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) today announced $89,750 in grants targeting business growth and job creation in Chelan and Whitman counties. Supplemented with local matching funds, the CERB grants will support studies to help community officials make strategic decisions about future investments to promote economic development.
- $39,750 grant to City of Wenatchee to conduct a market analysis to create a redevelopment and recruitment strategy. In conjunction with the analysis, a sub-area plan will be developed for South Wenatchee. CERB funds are matched by $13,250 in local resources.
- $50,000 grant to the Port of Whitman County to evaluate the construction of a LEED- certified building with spaces for lease to companies emerging from Washington State University. CERB funds are matched by $16,500 in local resources.
“The Community Economic Revitalization Board is dedicated to helping communities across the state develop the infrastructure to attract, retain and grow businesses and jobs,” said CERB Chair Allen Brecke. “These investments will have a positive economic impact at a time when it is needed the most.”
Since 1982, CERB has committed more than $168 million to local jurisdictions across the state, an investment generating more than 34,000 jobs. As Washington’s strategic economic development resource, CERB is focused on creating private sector jobs in partnership with local governments by financing infrastructure improvements.
