Commerce pauses HTF Repair Fund to make program updates

Applications will reopen in early fall

Commerce’s Multifamily Housing Unit (MHU) will pause accepting applications for its Housing Trust Fund (HTF) Repair Fund on Monday, June 22. This is so MHU can update the program guidelines and systems in response to new directives from the Washington State Legislature.

MHU will process any applications already in the queue by June 22. Applicants denied for insufficient documentation (after being given an opportunity to cure any deficiencies) or denied for lack of available funding (after final funding decisions are made) may resubmit once the fund opens again for new applications. We estimate that the fund will reopen for new applications around September 2026. Claim eligibility still applies to work completed on or after July 1, 2025.

There will be several program updates, including:

  • Conditionally committing up to $200,000 per project for work planned, but not yet started or completed, based on the amount needed as identified by the applicant. Upon work completion, the applicant must provide documentation of actual costs for reimbursement.
  • Allocating $1 million (limited to $200,000 per project) for risk-mitigation investments to prevent water- and fire-based property damage. We will update program guidelines with specific requirements.

As we work through needed program and system updates, we will release draft materials for public and community partner feedback, and we may schedule listening sessions or similar events to receive feedback.

Thank you for your patience as we implement these updates and make final decisions from the currently available funding.
