Commerce announces 47 multifamily housing preservation awards

$39.5 million in awards will preserve 1,429 housing units in Washington

The Washington State Department of Commerce is announcing 47 awards from the Housing Preservation Program. These awards will preserve the livability of multifamily affordable housing units in the state’s Housing Trust Fund portfolio. Awarded properties will implement major building improvements and system replacements for the benefit of affordable housing residents.

The funding, totaling $39.5 million, will maintain the affordability of 1,429 housing units in Washington.

These awards represent careful consideration of 88 applications received in response to funding notice #MHU-2026-04, released in March. View the list of Housing Preservation Program funding applicants (PDF).

The Washington State Legislature invested more than $728 million in the Washington State Housing Trust Fund in the 2025-2027 Capital Budget and 2026 Supplemental Budget. This funding increases the capacity of our housing partners to deliver thousands of new affordable housing units across every part of the state.
