April 2026 transportation electrification open funding opportunities

WA Dept. of Ecology – Zero Emission School Bus and Fleet Transition Grant Program 2025-2027

  • Who can apply: School bus owners who transport students to K-12 schools operated by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) for the zero-emission school bus projects, as well as cities, counties, tribes, public utility districts/co-ops, transit authorities, and school districts including skills centers, state governments, nonprofit organizations, and local clean air agencies for the vocational training projects.
  • Qualifying projects: Zero-emission school bus projects and vocational training projects.
  • Total funding amount: Approximately $15 million.
  • Application due date: June 4, 2026, 4 p.m.

WA Dept. of Transportation – Regional Mobility Grant

  • Who can apply: Cities, counties, ports, public transit agencies, regional transit authorities, regional transportation planning organizations, and metropolitan planning organizations in Washington state.
  • Qualifying projects: Charging equipment for electric vehicles.
    • Please note, charger projects exclusively for single-occupancy vehicles are not eligible, as they do not result in a reduction of vehicle trips or vehicle miles travelled.
  • Total funding amount: WSDOT has ~$62.6 million available in grant funding for the 2025-2027 biennium. The funding level for the 2027-2029 biennium will be determined during the 2027 legislative session.
  • Application due date: Pre-applications are due by 3 p.m., March 3, 2026. Grant applications are due by 3 p.m., June 30, 2026.

WA Dept. of Transportation – WE-Bike e-bike Rebate Program

  • Who can apply: People living in Washington ages 16 and up.
  • Qualifying expenses: Rebate can be used for qualifying e-bikes, e-cargo bikes, and adaptive e-bikes.
  • Total funding amount: $7 million.
  • Program end date: March 29, 2027.

WA Dept. of Transportation – Washington Zero Emission Incentive Program (WAZIP)

  • Who can apply: Business, nonprofit, tribal nation or government entity. Based in Washington and have operated in Washington for at least one year. Check site for other requirements.
  • Qualifying projects: Point of sale discounts on medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles and equipment.
  • Total funding amount: More than $112 million.
  • Vouchers available: Fiscal year 25-27; check current funding availability.
