Commerce embraces Government Management Accountability and Performance (GMAP) principles and participates in internal and Governor’s GMAP sessions. We utilize these sessions to report performance levels, provide analysis and review action needed to demonstrate the value (results) of our programs. Commerce’s divisions currently have a total of 49 budget activities. In early 2007, we underwent a valuable performance measure assessment conducted by the Office of Financial Management. This assessment was instrumental in updating and aligning our performance measures with our budget activities. Seventy performance measures now measure our results linked to budget activities. Each budget activity supports one of our five strategic goals. Additionally, each activity is linked to and supports one of the Governor’s priorities. We held monthly internal GMAP meetings for more than two years (one division per month). In February 2008, we began hold quarterly internal GMAPs following the close of each fiscal year quarter (1/2 day sessions focused on all Commerce divisions budget performance measures). The new GMAP format has people more engaged. We’re learning more about each other, asking questions that make our work better, sharing expertise, and finding common ground for fresh solutions. In addition, Commerce participates in the Governor’s quarterly Economic Vitality, Puget Sound and WorkFirst GMAPs. We currently have three performance measures on the Governor’s Economic Vitality Dashboard that support the Governor’s Next Washington plan.
