Housing Improvements and Preservation

 

  • The Weatherization Program reduces utility costs of low-income families by providing home energy efficiency improvements.
  • The Lead-Based Paint Program accredits lead-based paint training programs and certifies contractors who perform specialty lead-based paint remediation and renovation work.
  • The Lead Hazard Control Program provides funding to help control lead-based paint hazards in low-income homes with young children, train individuals in lead safe work practices, and provides outreach educational materials.
  • The Manufactured Housing Program provides cost reimbursement to eligible low-income families for relocating a home displaced when a mobile home park closes.


Community Economic Opportunities

 

  • The Asset Building Program provides support to an array of local organizations to help improve the financial skills of low- and moderate-income families leading to long-term financial independence.
  • Commerce’s WorkFirst Program contracts with community organizations across the state to help Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients become gainfully employed.
  • The Community Services Block Grant Program (CSBG) provides funding and technical assistance to Community Action Agencies to help ease the effects of poverty including employment readiness and training, emergency services, and housing.
